Dr Miguel HernandezMiguel R. Hernandez, M.D. Psychiatrist- President

Dr. Hernandez was born in 1973 and grew up in Ensanche Julia, Santiago City, Dominican Republic. He obtained Metal Honor and bachelor’s degree in Physical Science and Mathematics from Liceo Ulises Francisco Espaillat in 1990. He was interested in helping others very early in his life and became Rotaract Santiago Apostol la Esperanza of rotary International vice-president during his high school years.
He pursued his Medical Doctor degree at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), graduating in 1996. He was teacher assistant at PUCMM School of Medicine from 1996 to 1998.
The Dominican Republic Presidency selected him as one of the ten most talented young men in Santiago City in 1998.
He is a member of professional associations and societies which include American Medical Association (AMA), American Psychiatry Association (APA) and Dominican Medical Association (DMA), Inc. of New York.
He was elected DMA president 2007-08. He was DMA executive committee advisor 2008. He has been re-elected DMA president 2009-10. In his commitment to help other doctors in need and serve the Hispanic community, he has emerged as one of the most influential and powerful voice in the DMA, which he has positively transformed with his hard work and visionary ideas during the last eight years.
He did his medicine, neurology, psychiatric internship and residency program at Harlem Hospital Center of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He was chief Resident of Department of Psychiatric at Harlem Hospital, Columbia University 2006
He completed psychosomatic medicine fellowship at St. Lukes Rossevelt Hospital of Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons in New York in 2008. He is currently Major 0-4 of the U.S. Army Reserve, institution that he serves since 2005.
He is currently clinical Instructor in psychiatry at New York Presbyterian hospital Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
As a psychiatrist Dr. Hernandez continues to serve the Dominican community. He has won recognition by Dia a Dia show of Telemundo International for superior leadership in the Hispanic community.

He has two children Elmer Akhenaton and Armani Enoch and a lovely wife, mother and sister (Olga, Juana, Rafaelina respectively) who give him the strength and love to serve others. He likes to play chess, painting, poetry and mysticism during his free time.

Alanna GomezAlanna Gomez, M.D. - Secretary

Dr. Alanna Gomez was born in Santiago Dominican Republic she migrated to U.S. at the age of fourteen she completed her High School education at Washington Irving High School In New York City.

Dr. Gomez moved back to her native town Santiago and pursued her Medical Doctor Degree at the Pontificia Universidad Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) graduating in 2007.

She is currently the Secretary of the executive committee of the Dominican Medical Association and the Program Liaison of the VII DMA Medical Symposium; she is actively involved in many initiatives for the Dominican Community in Washington Heights.

Dr. Gomez is a Medical Educator for the National Hispanic Research Network, at Interamerican College of Physician and Surgeon.

Angela Rivero, M.D. - Treasurer

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. After completing High School at the Eugenio Maria De Hostos Secondary School attended to the faculty of Medicine at The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo where she graduated as a Medical Doctor. She continued with an internship at the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Santo Domingo. To further her studies was offered a two years fellowship at “Clinica Del Nino which is a teaching hospital for the “University of La Plata,” Republic of Argentina where she graduated as an Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist.

After completing training she worked at “The Robert Reid Children’s Hospital” as an outpatient Pediatric Physician  At the same time she was doing private  practice at “Centro de Pediatria Y Especialidades” located in Santo Domingo. Immigrated to the US and is working with Columbia University at Harlem Hospital

She has one son Carlos M. and 3 grand children.

 Dr. Rivero is a member of the Dominican Medical Association for several years and member of the Executive Committee for the last 3 periods. She is the active Treasurer of the organization.
